MRR definitions that survive board week

How Hong Kong subscription teams settle disputes between finance and product before the pack goes to the board.

Financial documents and calculator on a wooden desk

Board week is when quiet disagreements about monthly recurring revenue become loud. One team counts paused accounts as retained; another does not. The pack then carries two stories.

Start with a written definition owned by finance and countersigned by the product lead who owns billing rules. Include how you treat trials converting mid-month, prorated upgrades, and multi-currency settlement common among Hong Kong operators serving regional customers.

We ask clients to keep a short change log: date, reason, and who approved the shift. When a board member asks why March looks different from February, the answer is already documented.

If your dashboard cannot show both the current definition and a restated prior period, fix that before you debate strategy. Clarity on the number usually shortens the strategy debate itself.
